GTA 6 on PC: No Release Date Yet, and What Rockstar's History Suggests

There is no PC release date for GTA 6, and no PC version has been announced. Take-Two's own release schedule lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, launching 19 November 2026. On 7 October Xbox ruled out streaming it to PC at launch.
History is the only guide, and it points well into 2027 or beyond. Rockstar's last two big games reached PC 12 months (Red Dead Redemption 2) and 19 months (GTA V) after their console launches. Applied to GTA 6, that would mean late November 2027 or mid-June 2028. That is arithmetic from past releases, not a leak and not an announcement.
Key takeaways
- Confirmed platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, 19 November 2026, in Take-Two's earnings release of 7 August 2026. No PC version, date, storefront or system requirements.
- No cloud route either: Xbox's chief strategy officer said on 7 October that GTA VI "will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
- Why console first: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg in May that "Rockstar always starts on console" because "you're judged by serving the core."
- The pattern: GTA IV reached PC after 7 months, Red Dead Redemption 2 after 12, GTA V after 19.
- The "early 2026" PC date you may have seen came from a Corsair executive in 2025. Corsair later called it speculation.
What is actually confirmed
Take-Two's quarterly earnings releases carry a product schedule, and the one filed with the SEC on 7 August 2026 is as close to an official platform list as exists:
| Label | Title | Platforms | Release |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rockstar Games | Grand Theft Auto VI | PS5, Xbox Series X|S | 19 November 2026 |
That matches everything Rockstar itself has published: trailers, pre-orders and the 12 November pre-load are all for the two consoles. The same filing reiterates Take-Two's forecast of $8.0 to $8.2 billion in net bookings for the year to March 2027, which its chief executive tied to "excitement around the November 19th launch" — a launch that, on its own schedule, is console-only. Its general language about "leveraging opportunities on PC, mobile and other platforms" is standard boilerplate that appears in every release. It is not a GTA 6 announcement.
We keep a running list of everything else that is confirmed — price, editions, the code-in-a-box physical version — in our piece on what Rockstar and Take-Two have actually confirmed.
What Take-Two has said about PC
The most direct comment came from Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two's chief executive, in a Bloomberg interview published in early May 2026. As quoted in coverage of the interview:
"Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core. Like, really serving the core consumer."
He went on to say that if those core players are not "served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers." Zelnick did not give a PC date, did not rule a PC version out, and did not say how long the gap would be.
The cloud question, settled for launch day
On 6 October The Verge reported that Xbox Cloud Gaming would be the only service able to stream GTA 6 at launch. Some coverage went further and suggested PC players could stream it through Microsoft's service on day one.
The next day, Matthew Ball, Xbox's chief strategy officer, posted on X:
"While the excitement for GTA VI and Xbox is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTA VI on Xbox November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC."
So there is no PC route at launch, native or streamed. Ball's statement is narrower than some headlines made it. It does not say whether Xbox console owners will be able to stream the game, and it says nothing about a later native PC release.
What Rockstar's history suggests
Rockstar has launched console-first for every major release since GTA IV. The three biggest show the range of gaps:
| Game | Console launch | PC launch | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto IV | 29 April 2008 | 2 December 2008 | 217 days (about 7 months) |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | 26 October 2018 | 5 November 2019 | 375 days (about 12 months) |
| Grand Theft Auto V | 17 September 2013 | 14 April 2015 | 574 days (about 19 months) |
The exception runs the other way. The first Red Dead Redemption (2010) did not reach PC until 29 October 2024, fourteen years later, which is a reminder that Rockstar is under no obligation to port at all.
Put the three gaps in the table after 19 November 2026 and you get 24 June 2027 (the GTA IV gap), 29 November 2027 (Red Dead Redemption 2) or 15 June 2028 (GTA V). None of these is a prediction. They show the range that history covers, and the two most recent precedents both point to late 2027 at the earliest.
The later end of that range looks more likely than the GTA IV end, for two reasons. The recent releases are the better guide, and both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 took a year or more. And Take-Two has little reason to hurry: its $8.0–8.2 billion forecast for the year already assumes a console-only launch.
Where the other dates come from
"Early 2026." In February 2025, on Corsair's earnings call, a Corsair executive said he understood the game would reach PC in early 2026. At that point the console version was still expected in autumn 2025. Corsair later told IGN the remark was its own speculation and that it had received no information from Rockstar or Take-Two. The console release has since slipped twice, to 19 November 2026.
"Sooner than expected." Reports of an earlier PC window circulate regularly, often traced to unnamed sources or to job listings. Treat any PC date as unconfirmed until it comes from Rockstar or Take-Two.
What to watch for
A PC version is unlikely to appear without warning. These are the signals that tend to come first:
- Rockstar Newswire. Rockstar published the PC dates and system requirements for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 there.
- A store page on the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam or the Epic Games Store.
- Take-Two's product schedule. The next earnings release, for the July–September quarter, is due in early November. A PC line in that table would be the first official sign.
- Earnings calls. A change in how Zelnick talks about PC on Take-Two's results calls would be worth more than any rumour.
Confirmed, reported, unknown
Confirmed: GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (Take-Two's 7 August 2026 earnings release); it will not stream to PC at launch (Xbox, 7 October 2026); Take-Two's CEO describes the strategy as console first.
Reported: The Verge's 6 October report that Xbox Cloud Gaming would stream the game at launch, which Xbox called "misreporting" in part; various unsourced claims of an early PC window.
Unknown: whether there will be a PC version, when, on which storefronts, and at what system requirements. Whether Xbox console owners can stream the game at launch is also unconfirmed.
If you are weighing a console purchase for launch, note that console prices have been rising rather than falling this generation; our explainer on Switch 2 sales and Nintendo's price rise covers why memory costs are pushing hardware prices up. FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is GTA 6 coming to PC?
Nothing has been announced. Take-Two's earnings release of 7 August 2026 lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, on 19 November 2026. Every previous mainline Rockstar game of the last two decades did eventually reach PC, which is why most people expect one, but Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version, a date or system requirements.
When is the GTA 6 PC release date?
There isn't one. If GTA 6 followed Red Dead Redemption 2, which reached PC 375 days after consoles, a PC version would land around late November 2027. If it followed GTA V, which took 574 days, it would be mid-June 2028. Those dates are arithmetic from past releases, not predictions or announcements.
Can I play GTA 6 on PC through Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Not at launch. After The Verge reported that Xbox Cloud Gaming would stream the game, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball posted on 7 October 2026 that GTA VI 'will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.' His statement did not say whether Xbox console owners will be able to stream it.
Why isn't GTA 6 launching on PC?
Take-Two's chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, told Bloomberg in May 2026 that 'Rockstar always starts on console' because 'you're judged by serving the core.' Rockstar has launched console-first for every major release since GTA IV, with PC versions following anywhere from weeks to, for the first Red Dead Redemption, fourteen years later.
Will GTA 6 on PC be on Steam?
Unknown, because the PC version itself is unannounced. For comparison, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PC through Rockstar's own launcher in November 2019 and reached Steam a month later, in December.
Did Corsair say GTA 6 comes to PC in early 2026?
A Corsair executive said so on a February 2025 earnings call, when the console version was still expected in autumn 2025. Corsair later said the remark was its own speculation and that it had no information from Rockstar or Take-Two. The console release has since moved to 19 November 2026.
